Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

I don’t know about you guys, but I always try to make our planet a better place through three simple tasks: reducing, reusing, and recycling.

I make my best effort to reduce my contribution to waste through by looking at packaging on the groceries that I buy. Many manufacturers make a point to show that they have cut down on packaging materials showing e.g. “30% less plastic,” common on plastic bottles. I am more likely to buy from a company that demonstrates concern for the environment in this way.

Reusing is also very important. Many grocery stores sell reusable grocery bags that avoid allow customers to avoid wasting the plastic bags. I also prefer to use them because they are much stronger. Sandwich baggies and bottles from sports drinks and water are also reusable- just make sure to wash them! My favorite contribution is donating old newspapers to the local animal shelter so they can reuse them to line the kennels. This allows the paper to serve a dual purpose!

I also make sure to recycle all other materials that can no longer be reused. I recycle all plastic and glass bottles, paper, and aluminum foil (not JUST cans!).

Through the 3 R’s, reduce, reuse, recycle, I am avoiding the waste of many materials as they would go straight to a landfill and eventually be burned-up. The 3 R’s allows the world to be a better place.
